3 Experiences to Help You Survive Lockdown

Stay Home Board

We’re still in lockdown. But you know that. Museums, leisure facilities, sport schools – all still closed. And we’re are going to be stuck in lockdown for a while longer. Not going out and experiencing new things is probably getting to some most of you. It’s getting to me and my family, I know that much. But all is not completely and utterly lost; the virtual world can offer us fun and new experiences, if you know where to look. Here are 3 experiences to help you survive lockdown.

Live Escape Rooms

We may not be able to head off to a physical escape room at the moment, but that doesn’t rule escape rooms out as entertainment. Some escape rooms come to you.

For my son’s 14th birthday we booked ‘The Secret’s of Eliza’s Heart’, an escape room hosted by Logic Locks (not affiliate or sponsored in anyway, just a personal recommendation and positive experience). It was played using Zoom, was completely in English and took about 90 minutes all in all.

Admittedly, it took us a while to get used to doing an escape room in a new way but we got going eventually. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience with our host Richard Fimblewood. And all without leaving the couch. You can form teams from different locations, so ideal to do with friends or family in different households – completely corona proof.

Have a scout around online and you will find more escape rooms offering a live experience online. This will certainly help you survive another evening of lockdown – regardless of the curfew.

Zoom Games

Before Christmas we hooked up with the boys’ grandparents in England. Online of course. Using Zoom to be more precise. We played Bingo and Kahoot! (there’s an app available). With Kahoot! you can make a quiz on any topic you like, including about your own family or personal family history, as an example.

We also raised a glass with each other to proost the festive season and had lots of fun and laughs. It kept the kids entertained longer than a usual video call would. Definitely highly recommended.

What are you waiting for? Pick a random evening and connect with loved ones.

Online Experiences

In the absence of the ability to travel right now, a good option is an online experience. The Airbnb virtual experiences are offered by folk all around the world. And the choice is wide ranging.

There are travel experiences.

There are cultural gems on offer.

Cookery classes.

Musical events.

Magic experiences.

Fitness

Art experiences.

There are opportunities to learn a new skill or enrich your knowledge. Opportunities to see parts of the world you haven’t yet seen.

Bonus Tip – Read a New Book

Goodbye Britain‘ is a brand new book. Author Tom Beck spent hours and hours nattering to Brits around the world and captured their stories in their own words about their reasons for leaving Britain and their experiences overseas. The stories are varied. Some adventures abroad lasted. Some didn’t. Not all have happy endings, but every Brit certainly gained valuable experience.

Yours truly features in the book, as does a very close relative – you get bonus points if you figure out which story that is.
